About the Artist
Damien Hirst (b. 1965) is a British painter, sculptor, and installation artist born in Bristol, England. Death is one of the primary themes of his work. His first major retrospective The Agony and the Ecstasy was held in 2004 at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples, Italy. He was recognized in 2012 with a major retrospective of his work staged at the Tate Modern in London.
