About the Artist
Tom Wesselmann (1931-2004) was an American painter, sculptor, and collage artist born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was long associated with the pop art movement, rejecting abstract expressionism in favor of classical representations of the nude, still life, and landscape. His work has been shown at the Whitney Museum of American Art in Manhattan, Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, and Cincinnati Art Museum. Since his death, retrospectives of his work have been exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and elsewhere.
