About the Artist

Diane Arbus (1923-1971) was an American photographer born in New York, New York. Hugely influential, she was known for photographing marginalized groups, in familiar settings. After her death, the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan held a major retrospective of her work, accompanied by the book Diane Arbus: An Aperture Monograph (1972). Her work is held in permanent collections including the Art Institute of Chicago, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the Morgan Library & Museum in New York, and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
